Sedation Dentistry
Are you afraid to go to the dentist? Relax! As the name implies, sedation dentistry allows Dr. March to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for patients receiving dental treatment.
We are one of the only general dentistry practices in Upper Arlington that offer intravenous (IV) sedation. We serve patients with a wide range of needs including those with dental phobias, anxiety, fear of shots and severe gag reflexes. In addition, we provide treatment to patients who seek IV sedation for the purpose of relaxation of convenience, thereby turning a stressful or lengthy appointment into a pleasant and comfortable experience.
IV sedation is deeper, more reliable and controllable and easily adjusted to each individual patient. This is in contrast to other typical dental office agents like nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or pills (oral sedation). IV sedation tends to be the method of choice if you don’t want to be aware of the procedure – you “don’t want to know”.
Inhalation and oral sedation offer a “no needle” approach that many patients find more accommodating then the traditional IV method. Dr. March is also trained to administer oral and inhalation sedation to patients who need “a little help” relaxing during their dental visit.
While sedated, patients are able to respond to verbal commands but they are so relaxed that they do not experience any pain, discomfort or anxiety. In fact, patients usually report not remembering much of the procedure and actually believe they were asleep throughout their appointment.
Best of all, you’ll probably only need one or two appointments with a dentist using sedation dentistry. So in hours you can start enjoying the confidence that comes with a bright new smile and good dental health.
Plus sedation dentistry is safe. Before Dr. March begins work, he will thoroughly review your medical history and then monitor you closely during your treatment.
And finally, the more relaxed you are during a visit the more likely it is that you will experience less trauma and pain from your procedure. Your body will not be “fighting” the stress of a dental procedure and your recovery time can be significantly reduced.
